Oprah

Yoga for 12-step Recovery is featured in this month’s O (Oprah) Magazine. I hope you enjoy the article. Feel free to share it with anyone who has questions about this meeting/practice.

Our Thursday night practice is on the move again! Kate is seizing the moment and turning her extraordinary energy and passion for helping others heal to being a full-time yoga teacher. When a too-good-to-be-true opportunity at HYLO presented itself (which includes a Thursday night class), she said yes! So we are doing what yogis do—being flexible. :)

All the pieces have fallen into place: we will move the Thursday night practice to Mondays and shift to a bit earlier time slot: 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. THIS SHIFT STARTS JUNE 4. It will still be held at Longevity Fitness Charleston who has graciously offered this beautiful space for us. There is free parking under the building!

Now hopefully some of you who had a hard time making it on Thursdays (for example, if your home group was on Thursdays) can join us Mondays. (Sorry for those of you who have a home group on Mondays! As you know, this is not a replacement for a 12-step program; it is an adjunct tool, adding feeling good in your body with the work of removing our stinkin’ thinkin’ and making a conscious contact with the God of our understanding.

Not all shifts are bad! We held our last meeting at Reverb last night. We will move to Longevity Fitness Charleston next Thursday 2/1/18 and we are starting 15 minutes later: 7:15 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.

Longevity Fitness is a modern, 4-story building at the northwest corner of Doughty and Rutledge (163 Rutledge). There are a FEW parking spaces underneath the building (clearly marked Longevity Fitness). Unfortunately, the other tenants in the building are not keen on sharing their parking spaces, even after hours. Do not park in those spaces (boots are not fun and would certainly shift your wonderful meeting- and yoga-induced mood). Take the stairs or the elevator to the 4th/top floor.

Please spread the word about BOTH Charleston Yoga and 12-Step Recovery meetings! We will have flyers and posters at all of the meetings so you can take several to post in places where someone who might be struggling with their own or another’s addiction and may see this little beacon of hope.

Save the Date!

Save the Date! Samunnati 2017 is an Anusara School of Hatha Yoga Gathering, Thursday, August 10 through Sunday, August 13, 2017

Location: The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center, Highlands, North Carolina, USA
themountainrlc.org

Can't make it to Samavesha in Italy? The Anusara School of Hatha Yoga is hosting our first Anusara weekend retreat. But in Anusara, we are not retreating! We are moving forward. Which is why we've named these new events Samunnati. "It literally means rising or swelling upward and thus also growth, increase, prosperity, and high position, eminence, exaltation. In a spiritual context it refers to an inner sense of elevation," according to Sanskrit scholar Bill Mahony.

So how fitting that we hosting our first Samunnati in the mountains! Join Anusara-certified teachers Denise Stottmann (from Louisville KY) and Gail Corvette (from Charleston SC). We will have a long asana practice twice a day, a daily hike, morning meditations and evening Satsangs. CEU credit available for Anusara license renewal and advancement as well as Yoga Alliance. Students interested in learning more about Anusara yoga are welcome. No experience necessary!
