I was the Featured Teacher of the Month in The Yoga House of Charleston's Newsletter. Here's the text.
MEET Gail!
TYH's Featured Teacher of the Month
1. Why did you first start practicing yoga?
I had tried a few yoga classes but was so Type A I didn't think it was a good enough workout until I took a class with Molly Fox called Fitness Yoga. I sweated and started to explore lots of classes, teachers and styles....and got hooked!
2. How would you describe your teaching style?
I asked some of my students, and they said my style is welcoming, genuine, comfortable, creative, eclectic, nourishing for the soul, intuitively tailored for each person in class, intense and fun at the same time...or in one sentence from another student: Heartfelt guidance to promote alignment and empowerment throughout the practice.
3. Whats your favorite pose? Least favorite pose?
My favorite is astavakrasana (it looks so much harder than it is!) and one I'm trying to love is Virabhadrasana 1 (it's hard for me to get my hips square and find comfort in the pose).
4. What's your idea of the perfect Sunday?
When we're not traveling, my perfect Sunday is singing in my church choir, puttering around, either taking a 4 p.m. yoga class or leading a group of fellow women in recovery in yoga, contemplation and meditation (which I am privileged to do one Sunday a month) and enjoying dinner and a netflix movie with my husband David.
5. What cool tunes would we find on your i-pod right now?
Cool tunes to me include classical music, whatever new Nia routine I am teaching, and inspirational songs I can dance to or use in yoga classes. (I don't think I could pick out a Lady Gaga song if my life depended on it!) My playlist for last week's classes (the theme was the Yoga Wisdom of the Wizard of Oz) included Eva Cassidy's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, America's Tin Man, Josh Radin's No Envy, No Fear, Iz's Somewhere Over The Rainbow and Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World.
Gail is not only a wonderful yoga teacher but a wonderful person, which is evident within a few moments of meeting her. For such a tiny person, she has a huge heart, always walks in with a big smile on her face, and offers heartfelt inspiration in each of her classes.
